These are the same tried, tested, edited and improved resources that I have been using with my own students for the last few years. They are high quality and closely aligned with the style and and expectations of questions in the Kent Test. Like my mock test packs, and unlike other, more generic, published 11+ resources, this pack is geared specifically and exclusively towards the Kent Test, which differs from the GL tests in other areas of the country. In-depth coverage of Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning is provided.
How to use the Kent Test Preparation Pack
The scheme is split into six parts, each consisting of 20 units, covering Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The parts are designed to be worked through in order, providing a highly structured, easy to deliver program of lessons. All you need to get started, is to have the first part printed, ready for your student to work through, with your support.
Then simply purchase the subsequent parts at your own pace. If you prefer a more defined timescale, aim to complete one part per term, so that all six parts are completed during Year 5.
I also sometimes begin Part 1 during the second half of Year 4, if my student is secure in the Year 4 maths and English curriculum.
The order of the units has been carefully and intentionally chosen to achieve two aims:
- To ensure that the cognitive demand increases over the year
- To intentionally stagger the maths topics so they are not completed at the same time as their coverage in school. For example, some geometry topics appear in Pack 1, whereas in schools these are usually scheduled later in the year. This means our students will study the topic twice during the year – a fantastic opportunity for revision and consolidation.
Work through the units at your student’s own pace. In most cases, more than one unit can be completed in an hour’s lesson, and I often set a unit’s last few questions as homework.
Most pages are laid out with answer boxes similar to those found in the real Kent Test. This gives students the opportunity to build great habits and familiarity with the method of input they will encounter in the test. Some other pages have spaces to write definitions or vocabulary that is vital to memorise.
Each part comes with an answer pack for you to keep on-hand, which also includes tips and strategies that I have found to be helpful.
Updated for 2026 cohort: Some higher level (Year 6 and 7) areas of the maths curriculum, which historically have been included in the Kent Test, have not been included in recent years. Although I have not removed these areas from my resource pack, I have clearly marked those questions with yellow stars saying Y6+, to indicate that this is Year 6+ content. In this way, tutors and parents may decide whether or not they wish to use them with their students. I find that more able students often enjoy the challenge of the higher level concepts!
